Oh Crap! – Raw Sewage Damage

Water damage occurs more frequently than fire and smoke damage, and will often get progressively worse if action is not taken.

Water damage occurs more frequently than fire and smoke damage, and will often get progressively worse if action is not taken. There are different types of water sources and, therefore, different levels of damage that can occur.

Raw sewage backups fall under the category of water damage that contains contaminants and needs immediate attention. This occurs when sewage backflows into someone’s home, for example if there is blockage in your sewage line or if a heavy rainstorm places strain on sanitary systems.

It is important for homeowners to carry a rider on his or her homeowner’s insurance for flood and sewage backup events. Otherwise such damage can cost a homeowner tens of thousands of dollars.

  • If water damage occurs to your home or property, Extreme Restoration’s technicians can identify the type of water damage to determine which steps should be taken. IF it is determined that raw sewage is the culprit, these are some of the steps Extreme Restoration will take:Extraction/removal of the waste and “soft goods” (such as carpet that was contaminated). Soft goods CANNOT be cleaned of raw sewage. These materials need replaced.
  • Thorough cleaning of what is below the carpet (such as concrete in your basement). Extreme Restoration uses plant-based, anti-microbial cleaning solution and disinfectant.
  • Replacing property damaged by the raw sewage, such as walls, carpeting, and base boards.

**Do NOT attempt to clean up any water damage without wearing proper protection. Being exposed to human waste or contaminated water can lead to illness.
